Texas Instruments DRV8215 Half-Bridge Motor Driver
Texas Instruments DRV8215 Half-Bridge Motor Driver integrates speed and voltage regulation with additional features like stall detection, current sense output, current regulation, and protection circuitry. The speed and voltage regulation feature utilizes the motor voltage and current data to regulate motor speed or voltage, eliminating the possible need for external sensors to detect speed.These options reduce board size and design complexity and save on overall system cost. Integrated speed regulation maintains constant motor speed over varying input supply voltages, minimizing current consumption and keeping power over time. Constant motor speed maintenance is critical in applications with different loading conditions or reliance on battery power for operation where the input voltage is not constant. Soft start and stop allow for a controlled turn-on and turn-off time, lessening large inrush currents to protect the motor windings from damage, thereby improving system reliability and longevity.
The internal current mirror facilitates current sensing and regulation, eliminating the large power shunt resistor requirement, saving space, and decreasing system cost. The IPROPI current sense output enables a microcontroller to detect motor stalls or changes in load conditions. The gain select feature delivers high-accuracy current sensing down to 10mA average motor current. Using the VREF pin, the TI DRV8215 can regulate the motor current during startup and high-load events without interaction from a microcontroller. The DRV8215 supports sensorless motor stall detection and reporting to the microcontroller.
