
Vishay Semiconductors VCNL3040 Proximity Sensor
Vishay Semiconductors VCNL3040 Proximity Sensor integrates a high-power infrared emitting diode (IRED) and a proximity sensor (PS) into a tiny package. It incorporates photodiodes, amplifiers, and analog-to-digital conversion (ADC) circuits into a single chip by CMOS process. The module also features a programmable interrupt function for proximity sensing with individual high and low thresholds. The 12-/16-bit proximity sensing function uses an intelligent cancellation scheme, effectively eliminating cross-talk. The device also employs a smart persistence scheme for a fast response time. Through its standard I2C bus serial digital interface, the VCNL3040 allows easy access to the proximity signal. The programmable interrupt function offers wake-up functionality for the microcontroller when a proximity event occurs, which reduces processing overhead by eliminating the need for continuous polling.
