Broadcom ACPL-C799U ±50mV Sigma-Delta Modulators

Broadcom ACPL-C799U ±50mV Sigma-Delta Modulators convert analog signals to a high-speed data stream via optical isolation. The Broadcom ACPL-C799U modulators operate on a 5V supply, offering a 77dB dynamic range when paired with a digital filter. With differential inputs of ±50mV (±80mV full scale), the modulators connect directly to low-level signal sources like shunt resistors for applications like motor phase current measurement. The modulators oversample the analog input using an internal clock, encoding the signal into a high-density stream of ones at a 10MHz data rate. This encoded data is transmitted across the isolation boundary, where it is recovered and decoded into a digital data stream of ones and zeros. The original signal can be reconstructed using a digital filter. The serial interface supports a wide supply range of 3V to 5.5V for data and clock transmission.
