Parallax 32420x WX ESP8266 Wi-Fi Module

Parallax 32420x WX ESP8266 Wi-Fi® Module is a low-power 32-bit microcontroller (MCU) Wi-Fi based on an ESP8266 chip. This module is embedded with TCP/IP network stacks integrated with 16Mb of SPI flash. 32420x WX ESP8266 operates in low-power connectivity modes such as DTIM10 at 1.2mW. This Parallax module can function as its own wireless access point or as a station on another Wi-Fi network or even both. 32420x WX ESP8266 makes it possible for the devices to interact with a Microcontroller through the Wi-Fi module. If this Wi-Fi module is connected to the internet it can send and receive TCP/IP messages for Internet of Things(IoT) projects.

Features

  • 32420S - A breadboard-friendly, 5 and 3.3V compatible 0.1" SIP package
  • 32420D - A 3.3V, 2mm DIP package designed to work with the socket on the Propeller Activity Board, both original 32910 and WX 32912
  • Supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi access through the ESP8266-WROOM-02 module
  • Transparent serial communication mode for wireless microcontroller programming and debugging
  • Command serial communication mode for exchanging information with the host MCU
  • 3 Wi-Fi modes
    • (AP) as an access point that up to four devices can join
    • (STA) as a station on another Wi-Fi network
    • (STA + AP) station plus access point for joining another Wi-Fi network

Applications

  • Set up pages for controlling and monitoring robot or sensor projects
  • Module hosts and serves pages over Wi-Fi and acts as a simple serial intermediary between microcontroller and HTTP
  • Program the Propeller Activity Board WX over Wi-Fi with the DIP module to see real-time display of its remote sensor data on the computer
  • Useful when preparing for robot contests
